West Springfield High offers a variety of programs for academic advancements, career prep, and extracurricular interest.

The school has created a chart to help provide students with an estimate of the workload and demands of potential Advanced Placement courses offered at West Springfield High School. You and your child can read the school’s AP memo before registering for an AP course. That way you’ll both have a clear understanding of the responsibilities and expectations of AP students.

Peer tutoring is available during some lunch periods and after school for students that need additional assistance. Students tutors are trained to assist with all types of learning done at school, including math, science, world languages, and more.

Spartan Service Learning is a teaching method designed to involve students in authentic and meaningful service to the local community. All students are expected to complete 10 service hours each school year with a total of 40 hours by graduation. This program is meant to instill a sense of civic responsibility by encouraging students to access their impact on the community by actively contributing to society. Students that earn more than 50 hours may qualify for special recognition at graduation.

There are a number of options for students interested in performing arts. West Springfield High has a theatre/drama, chorus, strings, band, and even a separate guitar program.[/su_icon_text]

West Springfield High is a relatively large school with approximately 2250 students. That shouldn’t come as much of a surprise as students from Cardinal Forest, Hunt Valley, Keene Mill, Orange Hunt, Rolling Valley, and West Springfield elementary schools will all eventually make their way through the West Springfield pyramid to this high school. Students attending West Springfield High School usually attend Irving Middle for the 7th and 8th grades.

If you reside in Bramblewood, Cardinal Forest, Orange Hunt, Rolling Valley, and a number of other parts of Springfield will likely be assigned to West Springfield. West Springfield High operates on a block schedule where students alternate classes depending on the day of the week. Like most other high schools in the area, West Springfield has facilities on campus to host most athletic competitions. There’s a gymnasium, football field, soccer field, and baseball field.

West Springfield has a team for every athlete in every season. There’s cheerleading, cross country, field hockey, football, golf, volleyball in the fall. As winter approaches and temperatures drop they move on to indoor sports like basketball, gymnastics, indoor track, swim & dive, and wrestling.  By the time spring rolls around students are back outside trying out for baseball, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, track & field.

There’s also a Crew team at West Springfield, however, it is considered a sports club and receives no financial support from the school or county. Keep in mind that can mean a lot of out of pocket expenses if your child is interested.[/su_icon_text]
