West Springfield has an Advanced Academic Program for students in grades K-6. The school works with teachers to identify students that may benefit from the program, however, you can also request a screening of your child by contact the school directly. If your child is selected for the AAP program they’ll be pulled out with other students throughout the week for those subjects.

Springfield is a culturally diverse population and West Springfield offers an English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program.

In addition to classroom instruction, students welcome opportunities to participate in activities such as the band, chorus, strings, safety patrols, peer mediators, and the student council association.

West Springfield is also one of a few elementary schools that offers a part-time pre-school program. The preschool program is centered on early literacy, communication, and social development.[/su_icon_text]

West Springfield is what I would consider a smaller elementary school. Even with its preschool enrollment the school only has about 500 students.

Students living in the 22152 zip code, specifically in Hiddenbrooke, Hunter Village, Ramblewood at Daventry, Rolling Forest, and West Springfield could possibly attend West Springfield Elementary. West Springfield is in the West Springfield Pyramid that means if your child goes to West Springfield Elementary they’ll go to Irving Middle School then West Springfield High School.

If you’re relocating from another part of the country you may be unfamiliar with the Fairfax County school calendar. School starts during the last week of August and ends in either the second or third week of June.

One important thing to consider is the school’s hours of operation. If you need to be at work by 8:30 that could present some challenges for you, especially if you’re commuting to the District or the Pentagon.

West Springfield’s hours are Monday through Friday for grades K-6 are 8:50 to 3:35. The hours for the part-time preschool program are 9:10-12:30 and 12:30-3:50.

West Springfield offers SACC which is a before and after-school program has with the Office for Children of Fairfax County. However, I have to warn you that SACC often times has a waiting list that’s months long. Check out the SACC website to see if there are spots currently available.

If you are unable to get your child signed up for SACC there are a number of private before and after care programs in the area that will drop off and pick up your child.[/su_icon_text]

Parent involvement has been linked to student achievement. When looking for a school for your kids you’re also looking for a school that’s a good fit for you as well.

West Springfield PTA supports the school through various fundraisers and events throughout the school year. The West Springfield PTA offers a number of before and after school fee-based programs. Whether you are looking for technology, science, fitness, or hobbies, there’s something for everyone. Check out the West Springfield PTA for a list of upcoming events and meetings.

There are lots of opportunities to support your child and the school by volunteering in the lunchroom, office, and classrooms. Your level of involvement can be as much or as little as you like.[/su_icon_text]
