North Springfield has an Advanced Academic Program for students in grades K-6. The school works with teachers to identify students that may benefit from the program, however, you can also request a screening of your child by contact the school directly.

North Springfield is a Local Level IV program for Fairfax County Advanced Academic Placement for grades 3rd-5th. Level IV advanced placement is a full-time program. Students that qualify for Level IV Services have the option of attending Canterbury Woods or remaining at North Springfield, their neighborhood school.

The biggest difference between the two programs is students enrolled. All students in full-time, center-based classes like Canterbury Woods have been identified as center-eligible by a central selection committee and will be coming from several neighborhood schools. In a Local Level IV classroom at North Springfield, the students are a mix of students who are center-eligible and high achieving students who are capable of working at an advanced level.

There are many activities for students before, during, and after school:

• Chorus, Band, Strings, and Handbell Choir – students in the upper grades may choose to participate in one of these electives in addition to general music
• Cross Age Peer Tutoring –
• SCA (Student Council Association) – made up of officers and representatives from each classroom. The SCA is a leadership and service organization that conducts service projects and promotes school spirit through leadership projects. [/su_icon_text]

There are just over 500 students enrolled at North Springfield Elementary each school year.

Students living in the Springfield subdivisions of Leewood, Leewood Forest, North Springfield, and Sequoia Park may attend North Springfield. North Springfield is in the Annandale Pyramid that means if your child goes to North Springfield they’ll go either Holmes or Poe Middle School then Annandale High School.

One important thing to consider is the school’s hours of operation. Columbia’s hours are Monday through Friday are 8:35 to 3:30 for grades K – 6th.

If you need to be at work by 8:30 that could present some challenges for you, especially if you’re commuting to the District or the Pentagon.

North Springfield offers SACC which is a before and after-school program has with the Office for Children of Fairfax County. However, I have to warn you that SACC often times has a waiting list that’s months long. Check out the SACC website to see if there are spots currently available.

If you are unable to get your child signed up for SACC there are a number of private before and after care programs in the area that will drop off and pick up your child.[/su_icon_text]

Parent involvement has been linked to student achievement. When looking for a school for your kids you’re also looking for a school that’s a good fit for you as well.

The North Springfield PTA supports a number of activities in the community including social events and fundraisers including Box Tops for Education and a basket bingo. The North Springfield PTA also offers a number of fee-based after school enrichment programs at various times throughout the school year.

The school welcomes parents to set up a time with your child’s teacher to volunteer in the classroom, read a book to the class, or come in to have lunch with your child. Your level of involvement can be as much or as little as you like.[/su_icon_text]
