Woodburn has an Advanced Academic Program for students in grades K-6. The school works with teachers to identify students that may benefit from the program, however, you can also request a screening of your child by contacting the school directly. If your child is selected for the AAP program they’ll be pulled out with other students throughout the week for those subjects.

Woodbrun also focuses on STEAM education. STEAM in FCPS is an inquiry approach to teaching and learning where students integrate science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics to solve problems.

Like most schools in Fairfax County, Woodburn has an English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). There are a number of instructors on staff that focus on helping those students achieve academic success.[/su_icon_text]

There are just over 500 students enrolled at Woodburn Elementary each school year.

Students living in the Annandale and Falls Church subdivisions of Accotink Heights, Deren Park, Holmes Run Acres, Lafayette Village, and Pleasant Ridge may attend Woodburn. Woodburn is in the Falls Church Pyramid that means if your child goes to Woodburn they’ll go to Jackson Middle School then Falls Church High School.

One important thing to consider is the school’s hours of operation. Woodburn’s hours are Monday through Friday are 9:20 to 4:05 for grades K – 6th.

If you need to be at work by 8:30 that could present some challenges for you, especially if you’re commuting to the District or the Pentagon.

Woodburn offers SACC which is a before and after-school program has with the Office for Children of Fairfax County. However, I have to warn you that SACC often times has a waiting list that’s months long. Check out the SACC website to see if there are spots currently available.

If you are unable to get your child signed up for SACC there are a number of private before and after care programs in the area that will drop off and pick up your child.[/su_icon_text]

Parent involvement has been linked to student achievement. When looking for a school for your kids you’re also looking for a school that’s a good fit for you as well.

The Woodburn PTA supports a number of activities in the community including social events and fundraisers. Each school year the PTA offers a number of fee-based after-school enrichment programs. They vary year to year and range from science focused to athletics and the arts.

The school welcomes parents to set up a time with your child’s teacher to volunteer in the classroom, read a book to the class, or come in to have lunch with your child. Your level of involvement can be as much or as little as you like.[/su_icon_text]
