5 Things About Marshall High

[su_icon_text icon=”icon: book” icon_color=”#800020″ icon_size=”39″]School Programs

All Fairfax County Public Schools offer open enrollment in honors and advanced placement courses. Students and parents decide which courses will be taken but school counselors and teachers provide guidelines to assist in making the appropriate selection for each student.

Marshall is one of eight schools in Fairfax County that offers an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program. This program encourages students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right. Students in the program must do a personal project, complete certain classes and pass required exams.

Marshall High offers a variety of programs for academic advancements, career prep, and extracurricular interests. There are numerous programs and activities available for students no matter their interest: band, choir, orchestra, FBLA, Debate and Forensics Team, Model UN, Science Olympiad, and Key Club to name only a few. There are more than 15 different honor societies at Marshall.

Marshall STEM Academy is considered a school within a school offering technical and specialized courses to high school students from 11 different area high schools. Marshall Academy provides students the opportunity to get certifications, licensure, postsecondary course credit, along with career experiences with local business partners and leading national organizations in the DC Metro area.

The Career and Technical Education program (CTE) allows students to learn the technical applications of different occupations while preparing for either higher education or entering the workforce. [/su_icon_text]

All Fairfax County middle and high schools offer French and Spanish at a minimum, however, Marshall High also offers Latin foreign language classes.[/su_icon_text]

Marshall has a team for every athlete in every season.

There’s cheerleading, cross country, field hockey, football, golf, volleyball in the fall. As winter approaches and temperatures drop they move on to indoor sports like basketball, gymnastics, indoor track, swim & dive, and wrestling. By the time spring rolls around students are back outside trying out for baseball, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, track & field. [/su_icon_text]

[su_icon_text icon=”icon: user-circle” icon_color=”#800020″ icon_size=”39″]Enrollment

There are about 1900 students enrolled at Marshall each school year in grades 9-12.

Students attending Marshall High School usually attend Kilmer Middle for 7th and 8th grades. Students living in the Dunn Loring, Fairfax, Falls Church, and Vienna zip codes of 22027,22031, 22042, 22043, 22180, and 22182 may be assigned to the Marshall High.

I always recommended future home buyers use Fairfax County Boundary Locator to confirm the schools serving a specific address before making any decisions.[/su_icon_text]

If you’re relocating from another part of the country you may be surprised to learn that schools in Fairfax County begin the last week of August and end in either the second or third week of June.

Marshall operates on a partial block schedule where students alternate classes depending on the day of the week. In-class time is roughly one and a half hours rather than attending every class each day for 45 minutes. Here’s an example of what your high schooler can expect on a day to day basis. [su_homepage_testimonial author="A Happy Client"]I’ve only shopped for property three times, but Abraham provided a substantially better experience than my previous two agents (even though they all worked for the same brokerage). He knows what he is doing, he is service oriented, he is friendly, and he gets things done. I can tell you that you probably have no idea how awesome a real estate agent can be unless you’ve bought or sold through Abraham. As long as he is around and I’m buying or selling, Abraham will be my agent from here on out.[/su_homepage_testimonial]
