Laurel Ridge has an Advanced Academic Program for students in grades K-6. The school works with teachers to identify students that may benefit from the program, however, you can also request a screening of your child by contact the school directly.

The Laurel Ridge Comprehensive Services Site (CSS) provides individualized services for students with special needs.

Laurel Ridge offers a partial Spanish Immersion Program available to students in grades K through 6th. Students in the immersion program will spend about half the school day is taught in Spanish and the other half in English. Students are not automatically enrolled in the program. Student select is determined through a lottery.

Northern Virginia is a culturally diverse population and Laurel Ridge offers an English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program.

There are many activities for students before, during, and after school:

• Band and Strings – students in the upper grades may choose to participate in one of these electives in addition to general music
• Safety Patrol – Patrols support the staff and crossing guard during arrival and dismissal.
• WLRS – Window on Laurel Ridge School is the student produces morning news show.
• Lightning Loins – School jump rope team that performs at a number of events throughout the county
• SCA (Student Council Association) – made up of officers and representatives from each classroom. The SCA is a leadership and service organization that conducts service projects and promotes school spirit through leadership projects.   [/su_icon_text]

There are close to 700 students enrolled at Laurel Ridge Elementary each school year. That includes students enrolled full-time in grades K through 6 and also a handful of students in the part-time preschool program.

Students living in the Fairfax subdivisions of Briarwood and Kings Park West may attend Laurel Ridge. Laurel Ridge is in the Robinson Pyramid that means if your child goes to Laurel Ridge they’ll go to Robinson Middle School then Robinson High School.

One important thing to consider is the school’s hours of operation. Laurel Ridge’s hours are Monday through Friday are 9:10 to 3:55 for grades K – 6th. 

If you need to be at work by 8:30 that could present some challenges for you, especially if you’re commuting to the District or the Pentagon.

Laurel Ridge offers SACC which is a before and after-school program has with the Office for Children of Fairfax County. However, I have to warn you that SACC often times has a waiting list that’s months long. Check out the SACC website to see if there are spots currently available.

If you are unable to get your child signed up for SACC there are a number of private before and after care programs in the area that will drop off and pick up your child.[/su_icon_text]

Parent involvement has been linked to student achievement. When looking for a school for your kids you’re also looking for a school that’s a good fit for you as well.

The Laurel Ridge PTA supports a number of activities in the community including social events and fundraisers. Each school year the PTA offers a number of fee-based after-school enrichment programs. They vary year to year and range from science focused to athletics and the arts.

The school welcomes parents to set up a time with your child’s teacher to volunteer in the classroom, read a book to the class, or come in to have lunch with your child. Your level of involvement can be as much or as little as you like.[/su_icon_text]
