Are you looking for a new home near Lane Elementary School? Finding a new home can be stressful, now, add researching schools to the equation and it can be overwhelming.

What are the most commons things parents want to know when looking for a home in near Lane Elementary School? Well, I did a little research.

When looking for an elementary school parents usually want to know about the size of the school, the student to teacher ratio, the school’s ratings, and available options for before and after care. Below I’ve listed 4 things that will help you determine if Lane Elementary is the right fit your you and your family.

4 Things About Lane Elementary

[su_icon_text icon=”icon: book” icon_color=”#800020″ icon_size=”39″]Programs

Lane has an Advanced Academic Program for students in grades K-6. The school works with teachers to identify students that may benefit from the program, however, you can also request a screening of your child by contact the school directly. If your child is selected for the AAP program they’ll be pulled out with other students throughout the week for those subjects.

Like most school’s in Fairfax County, Lane has an English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). Lane has 3 instructors on staff that focus on helping those students achieve academic success.

At Lane, the Student Council Association (SCA) has four representatives from each classroom in grades 1-6. How the elections are done varies but it’s usually some type of blind election where teachers read prepared speeches. Students then vote for the speech rather than a particular person. Believe me, in my experience this saves friendships. There’s also a  President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary selected from the 5th and 6th graders.

With the start of the 2018-2019 school year recess has increased to 30 minutes from 20 minutes statewide. To accommodate for this change Lane now has two 15 minute recesses a day. The jury is still out on if this is an improvement over years past. Some kids (and parents) feel 15 minutes isn’t long enough to really enjoy recess.[/su_icon_text]

[su_icon_text icon=”icon: user-circle” icon_color=”#800020″ icon_size=”39″]Enrollment

Lane Elementary is the largest elementary school in the greater Kingstowne area. There are on average 840 students enrolled at Lane Elementary each school year, with a student-teacher ratio of 15.88 to 1. With that said, if you move to Kingstowne chances are your kids will attend Lane for elementary school.

Students living in Kingstowne, Windsor Park, and Crestleigh attend Lane Elementary. Students from Lane Elementary School feed into two High School pyramids with two different Middle Schools. The location of your home dictates which pyramid you will attend. Kingstowne is divided into three villages North, Middle, and South. Students residing in the Kingstowne Middle and South villages are in the Hayfield Pyramid.

We always recommend you check out the Fairfax County Boundary Locator to confirm the schools serving a specific address before making any decision to buy or rent a home.

Lane’s school motto is “Communicate, Collaborate & Care”. Recently they were recognized for their efforts in caring for our local military families. Lane was designated as Purple Star schools by the state for their support of military children and their parents.[/su_icon_text]

[su_icon_text icon=”icon: bell-slash” icon_color=”#800020″ icon_size=”39″]School Hours

One important thing to consider is the school’s hours of operation. Lane is open Monday through Friday are 9:20 to 4:05.  Doors open at 9:00 with the future teachers coming on at 8:55. If you need to be at work by 8:30 that could present some challenges for you, especially if you’re commuting to the District or the Pentagon.

Lane offers SACC which is a before and after-school program with the Office for Children of Fairfax County. However, I have to warn you that SACC often times has a waiting list that’s months long. Check out the SACC website to see if there are spots currently available.

Fortunately, if you are unable to get your child signed up for SACC there are a number of private before and after care programs in the area that will drop off and pick up your child. Because of Lane’s dedicated teachers and PTA, the school has after-school enrichment classes and activities for our students throughout the school year.[/su_icon_text]

[su_icon_text icon=”icon: list” icon_color=”#800020″ icon_size=”39″]Parent Involvement

Parent involvement has been linked to student achievement. When looking for a school for your kids you’re also looking for a school that’s a good fit for you as well.

Lane has an active PTA made up of parents, teachers, and staff. The PTA meets once at the beginning of each month. The Lane PTA provides assistance to teachers in the classroom, providing resources and hosting teacher appreciation events. The PTA also holds fundraisers throughout the year which have been responsible for financing technology resources, the school walking path, and help out of pocket expenses for student field trips. They also put on school and family social events to help build a sense of a community in this transient area.

In addition to the PTA, parents can volunteer to be a room parent, help out in the office, library and lunchroom. There are lots of opportunities to support your child and the school. Your level of involvement can be as much or as little as you like.[/su_icon_text]

[su_homepage_testimonial author="A Happy Client"]I’ve only shopped for property three times, but Abraham provided a substantially better experience than my previous two agents (even though they all worked for the same brokerage). He knows what he is doing, he is service oriented, he is friendly, and he gets things done. I can tell you that you probably have no idea how awesome a real estate agent can be unless you’ve bought or sold through Abraham. As long as he is around and I’m buying or selling, Abraham will be my agent from here on out.[/su_homepage_testimonial]
