Franconia has an Advanced Academic Program for students in grades K-6. The school works with teachers to identify students that may benefit from the program, however, you can also request a screening of your child by contact the school directly. If your child is selected for the AAP program they’ll be pulled out with other students throughout the week for those subjects.

Like most school’s in Fairfax County, Franconia has an English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). Franconia has 2 instructors on staff that focus on helping those students achieve academic success.

With the start of the 2018-2019 school year recess has increased to 30 minutes from 20 minutes statewide. [/su_icon_text]

There are roughly 550 students enrolled in grades K-6th at Franconia Elementary each school year, with a student-teacher ratio of 17 to 1. 

Students living in Valley View Manor, Autumn Chase, Franconia Commons,  Potters Glen, Manchester Lakes and surrounding subdivisions in the area attend Franconia Elementary. Students from Franconia Elementary School feed into Twain Middle and Edison High School.

Students attending Franconia Elementary School will move through the Fairfax County Pyramid system to Twain Middle School which feeds into Edison High School. It is recommended that future home buyers use Fairfax County Boundary Locator to confirm the schools serving a specific address before making any decisions.

One important thing to consider is the school’s hours of operation. Franconia is open Monday through Friday are 8:35 to 3:30. If you need to be at work by 8:30 that could present some challenges for you, especially if you’re commuting to the District or the Pentagon.

Franconia offers SACC which is a before and after-school program with the Office for Children of Fairfax County. However, I have to warn you that SACC often times has a waiting list that’s months long. Check out the SACC website to see if there are spots currently available.

Fortunately, if you are unable to get your child signed up for SACC there are a number of private before and after care programs in the area that will drop off and pick up your child.[/su_icon_text]

Parent involvement has been linked to student achievement. When looking for a school for your kids you’re also looking for a school that’s a good fit for you as well.

Franconia Elementary has an active PTA that meets monthly. The Franconia PTA works to support the students and staff through varies efforts. While most school PTA programs have their own websites that’s not the case with Franconia. They do however have a Facebook page they update regularly.

In addition to the PTA, parents can volunteer to be room parents, help out in the office, library and lunchroom. There are lots of opportunities to support your child and the school. Your level of involvement can be as much or as little as you like.[/su_icon_text]
