Literacy is a top priority at Cardinal Forest. All teachers at Cardinal Forest teach reading and writing for two hours every school day. The school’s website includes helpful tips you can use at home with your son or daughter.

Specials at Cardinal Forest in a number of options for students interested in exploring their musical side. Students in upper grades can sign up for chorus, band, or orchestra. If your child joins either of these classes they will still have general music once a week.

Cardinal Forest has a BYOD, Bring Your Own Device, policy for students in upper grades. Students in 4th-6th are allowed to bring personal tablets and electronic devices to school to support their learning. Students living in the 22152 zip code, specifically in Cardinal Forest, Cardinal Estates, Charleston, Southern Grove, and Tivoli will likely attend Cardinal Forest. Cardinal Forest is in the West Springfield Pyramid that means if your child goes to Cardinal Forest Elementary they’ll go to Irving Middle School then West Springfield High School.

If you’re relocating from another part of the country you may be unfamiliar with the Fairfax County school calendar. School starts during the last week of August and ends in either the second or third week of June.

One important thing to consider is the school’s hours of operation. If you need to be at work by 8:30 that could present some challenges for you, especially if you’re commuting to the District or the Pentagon.

Cardinal Forest’s hours are Monday through Friday are 9:10 to 3:55 for students in kindergarten through 6th grade. There are two part-time preschool programs available between 9:10-12:30 and 12:30-3:50.

Cardinal Forest offers SACC which is a before and after-school program has with the Office for Children of Fairfax County. However, I have to warn you that SACC often times has a waiting list that’s months long. Check out the SACC website to see if there are spots currently available.

If you are unable to get your child signed up for SACC there are a number of private before and after care programs in the area that will drop off and pick up your child.[/su_icon_text]
