Money Saving Tips When Moving in Kingstowne

You’re moving.

Congratulations!

But here’s the problem.

Moving can be overwhelming. I know, SHOCKING!

It’s not just the move itself but also the packing, cleaning, and the physical act of moving. Whether moving across town or cross country most homeowners don’t have any idea about the total cost that includes mover fees, truck rentals and packing supplies.

Unless you’re a minimalist (congrats by the way) moving can be daunting, especially when you’re on a tight budget.

The question a lot of folks ask is “How do I get the stuff in my current home and into my new place without dropping a ton of cash in the process?”

Here’s some advice.

Follow these moving tips to avoid stress and help save a few bucks along the way.

Get Rid of Unneeded Items

I’ve got news for you.

Professional movers charge by both weight and distance. The best way to save and earn additional money is to sell those things you find yourself not using. If you only have a few items to sell consider local forums like NextDoor and Facebook Marketplace.

By doing that, you can also save your space, and you won’t have to worry about packing the stuff and moving them when the big day comes.

Donate what you can’t sell.

Improvise On Moving Supplies

Boxes are the building blocks of moving, which is why moving companies take advantage of it and charge a hefty price for them. If you plan ahead you don’t need to buy a single box.

One way to get free boxes is reaching out to your circle of family and friends. Most people have extra boxes laying around anyways.

You can also bring boxes from your workplace, printer and paper boxes are durable and large enough for most items. A grocery store can also provide you free boxes if you ask them.

Once again posting on neighborhood forums may be the answer.

It’s that simple,

You may be able to secure enough boxers for your entire move from one neighbor in the area who recently moved.

Trust me on this.

My wife and I only had to buy one wardrobe box for our last move thanks to NextDoor. We were able to get book boxes, large boxes, and even wardrobe boxes in varing sizes all by posting online.

Prevent Any Damages

Most people have items that are fragile and require extra protection when being moved. Take extra care and wrap delicate items in newspaper or soft fabrics.

Although this strategy saves money on pricey bubble wrap, it’s not always the easiest on the other end of your move.

The last thing you want to do is damage your valuables and end up spending even more money on replacements.

Do It Yourself

Before hiring a professional mover, you may want to consider renting a truck and doing the move yourself.

Renting a truck is much cheaper than hiring a moving company, although it won’t be simply. If you decide to go this route remember don’t forget about the other equipment necessary to ensure your moving will go smoothly. That includes a hand truck and maybe a back brace.

Do It With The Help Of Someone Close

When moving on a tight budget, good friends or family members come in handy. Best of all you can usually pay them with a few pizzas and a couple of cases of beer.

Hire A Low-Cost Moving Company

Before hiring a moving company, it is essential to do your research first. Find out as much information as possible before signing on the dotted line. Beware of hidden charges and fees.

Remember to make sure all the prices and details in writing to avoid any mishaps.

Timing Is Everything

Finally.

If at all possible, try moving midweek or mid-month, when there is less demand. Planning your moving date during the slow season, like winter or fall can minimize your expenses.

During the peak season, moving companies are usually fully booked, so its important to start planning early. In fact, they will often times give you a discount if you allow flexibility in the delivery and pickup dates.

If you are looking for moving companies near Kingstowne, you’ve come to the right place.

[su_homepage_testimonial author="A Happy Client"]I’ve only shopped for property three times, but Abraham provided a substantially better experience than my previous two agents (even though they all worked for the same brokerage). He knows what he is doing, he is service oriented, he is friendly, and he gets things done. I can tell you that you probably have no idea how awesome a real estate agent can be unless you’ve bought or sold through Abraham. As long as he is around and I’m buying or selling, Abraham will be my agent from here on out.[/su_homepage_testimonial]
