Greenbriar East has an Advanced Academic Program for students in grades K-6. The school works with teachers to identify students that may benefit from the program, however, you can also request a screening of your child by contacting the school directly. If your child is selected for the AAP program they’ll be pulled out with other students throughout the week for those subjects.

Greenbriar East is one of the few elementary schools in the area that offers Global Plus classes. The program helps students learn a world language, in this case Spanish, by blending two other successful Fairfax County foreign language programs..

Like most schools in Fairfax County, Greenbriar East has an English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). There are a number of instructors on staff that focus on helping those students achieve academic success..

There are just over 900 students enrolled at Greenbriar East Elementary each school year, including students in their preschool program.

Students living in the Fairfax subdivisions of Cedar Lakes, East Market, Fair Lakes, Fair Ridge, Grays Point, Greenbriar, Stonecroft, and Willow Oaks may attend Greenbriar East. Most schools in Fairfax County fall under one high school pyramid, that isn’t the case with Greenbriar East. Greenbriar East is included in two different high school pyramids, Chantilly and Fairfax. If your neighborhood falls under the Chantilly Pyramid that means your child will move onto either Franklin or Rocky Run middle before Chantilly High. If you live in the Fairfax pyramid they’ll attend Lanier middle then Fairfax High School.

One important thing to consider is the school’s hours of operation. Greenbriar East’s hours are Monday through Friday are 9:05 to 4:00 for grades K – 6th. There are two part-time preschool programs. The morning session is from 9:15 to 12:40 and the afternoon is from 12:35 to 4:00.

If you need to be at work by 8:30 that could present some challenges for you, especially if you’re commuting to the District or the Pentagon.

Greenbriar East offers SACC which is a before and after-school program has with the Office for Children of Fairfax County. However, I have to warn you that SACC often times has a waiting list that’s months long. Check out the SACC website to see if there are spots currently available.

If you are unable to get your child signed up for SACC there are a number of private before and after care programs in the area that will drop off and pick up your child.[/su_icon_text]

Parent involvement has been linked to student achievement. When looking for a school for your kids you’re also looking for a school that’s a good fit for you as well.

The Greenbriar East PTA supports a number of activities in the community including social events and fundraisers. Each school year the PTA offers a number of fee-based after-school enrichment programs. They vary year to year and range from science focused to athletics and the arts.

The school welcomes parents to set up a time with your child’s teacher to volunteer in the classroom, read a book to the class, or come in to have lunch with your child. Your level of involvement can be as much or as little as you like.[/su_icon_text]
