Keene Mill is a center for Fairfax County Advanced Academic Placement. It offers full-time advanced placement focusing on four core content areas. The program is designed to meet the needs of advanced learners.

Over the last 15 years, enrollment in these AAP programs have more than triple which is caused a swell in both the number of schools turned into centers and the number of schools that offer Level IV programs.

Eligible students with Level IV academic placement whose base school doesn’t offer Level IV classes may attend Keene Mill.

Specials at Keene Mill in a number of options for students interested in exploring their musical side. Students in 5th and 6th grade can join the school and All-County choruses.

Keene Mill has a number of opportunities for students to give back and participate outside of their gen ed courses. Students can volunteer to be safety patrols, serve on the student council, and even a school broadcasting program, KM in the AM.[/su_icon_text]

Students living in the 22152 zip code, specifically in Cardinal Square, Keene Mill Village,  Keene Mill Manor, Shannon Station, and Westview Hills could possibly attend Keene Mill Elementary. Keene Mill is in the West Springfield Pyramid that means if your child goes to Keene Mill Elementary they’ll go to Irving Middle School then West Springfield High School.

If you’re relocating from another part of the country you may be unfamiliar with the Fairfax County school calendar. School starts during the last week of August and ends in either the second or third week of June.

One important thing to consider is the school’s hours of operation. If you need to be at work by 8:30 that could present some challenges for you, especially if you’re commuting to the District or the Pentagon.

Keene Mill’s hours are Monday through Friday are 9:15 to 4:00.

Keene Mill offers SACC which is a before and after-school program has with the Office for Children of Fairfax County. However, I have to warn you that SACC often times has a waiting list that’s months long. Check out the SACC website to see if there are spots currently available.

If you are unable to get your child signed up for SACC there are a number of private before and after care programs in the area that will drop off and pick up your child.[/su_icon_text]

Whether you are looking for sports, drama, arts and crafts, technology, science or hobbies, there’s something for everyone. They also host a number of social events including the school spelling bee.
