Hollin Meadows offers a number of Advanced Academic Placement options for grades K-6. Levels I and II are open to all grade levels with Levels III and IV open to 3rd-6th graders. Level III is part-time (students are pulled out of class for instruction in certain subjects) and Level IV is a full-time program.

Hollin Meadows is a Local Level IV Center for Fairfax County Advanced Academic Placement. Students that qualify for Level IV Services have the option of attending Stratford Landing or remaining at Hollin Meadows, their neighborhood school. The program is designed to meet the needs of advanced learners.

Over the last 15 years, enrollment in these AAP programs have more than triple which is caused a swell in both the number of schools turned into centers and the number of schools that offer Level IV programs.

Hollin Meadows is a science and math focus school. Students have access to more than 14,000 square feet of gardens throughout our campus including a Virginia Native Habitat, a Form & Texture Garden, a Literary Garden and an array of vegetable and flower beds.

At Hollin Meadows, students in grades first through sixth receive Chinese instruction through the FLES (Foreign Language in Elementary Schools) program for 30 minutes 2 times a week.

Hollin Meadows is a larger elementary school with between 750-800 students enrolled each school year.  The school’s grades span pre-kindergarten – 6th and has a 12.5 Student/Teacher Ratio.

Students attending Hollin Meadows Elementary School will move through the pyramid system to Sandburg Middle School which feeds into West Potomac High School. If you live in Hollin Hills, Hybla Valley, Hybla Valley Farms, Kirkside, Sherwood Hall, and other parts of the 22306 and 22307 zip codes your child will probably be assigned to Hollin Meadows.

If you’re relocating from another part of the country you may be unfamiliar with the Fairfax County school calendar. School starts during the last week of August and ends in either the second or third week of June.

One important thing to consider is the school’s hours of operation. If you need to be at work by 8:30 that could present some challenges for you, especially if you’re commuting to the District or the Pentagon.

Hollin Meadows’s hours are Monday through Friday are 8:25 to 3:10.

Hollin Meadows offers SACC which is a before and after-school program has with the Office for Children of Fairfax County. However, I have to warn you that SACC often times has a waiting list that’s months long. Check out the SACC website to see if there are spots currently available.

If you are unable to get your child signed up for SACC there are a number of private before and after care programs in the area that will drop off and pick up your child.[/su_icon_text]

Parent involvement has been linked to student achievement. When looking for a school for your kids you’re also looking for a school that’s a good fit for you as well.

Hollin Meadows PTA supports the school through various fundraisers and events during the school year.

The Hollin Meadows PTA also sponsors enrichment programs throughout the year. PTA sponsored programs include a Math Club, Spelling Club, Chess, Lego Robotics, and a running club for girls.

There are lots of opportunities to support your child and the school by volunteering in the lunchroom, office, and classrooms. Your level of involvement can be as much or as little as you like.[/su_icon_text]
