4Things About Halley Elementary

[su_icon_text icon=”icon: book” icon_color=”#800020″ icon_size=”39″]Programs

Halley is a Local Level IV program for Fairfax County Advanced Academic Placement. Students that qualify for Level IV Services have the option of attending Lorton Station or remaining at Halley, their neighborhood school.

The biggest difference between the two programs is students enrolled. All students in full-time, center-based classes like Lorton Station have been identified as center-eligible by a central selection committee and will be coming from several neighborhood schools. In a Local Level IV classroom at Halley, the students are a mix of students who are center-eligible and high achieving students who are capable of working at advanced level.

Over the last 15 years, enrollment in these AAP programs have more than triple which is caused a swell in both the number of schools turned into centers and the number of schools that offer Level IV programs.

Northern Virginia is a culturally diverse population and Halley offers an English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program.

In addition to classroom instruction, students welcome opportunities to participate in activities such as the band, chorus, strings, safety patrols, the Student Council Association, student news team, Girls on the Run, and the Bully Nots Step Team.

Halley is also one of a few elementary schools that offers a part-time pre-school program. The preschool program is centered on early literacy, communication, and social development.[/su_icon_text]
[su_icon_text icon=”icon: user-circle” icon_color=”#800020″ icon_size=”39″]Enrollment

There are on average of about 815 students enrolled at Halley Elementary each school year.

Halley Elementary is located in Fairfax Station, however, most students reside in Lorton. Students living in the 22079 zip codes and the Lorton subdivisions of Crosspointe, Lake Hill Farms, Lorfax Heights, and Lorton Valley North will probably attend Halley Elementary. Halley is in the South County Pyramid that means if your child goes to Halley Elementary they’ll go to South County Middle School then South County High School.

We always recommend you check out the Fairfax County Boundary Locator to confirm the schools serving a specific address before making any decision to buy or rent a home. [/su_icon_text]
[su_icon_text icon=”icon: bell-slash” icon_color=”#800020″ icon_size=”39″]School Hours

One important thing to consider is the school’s hours of operation. Halley is open Monday through Friday are 9:20 to 4:05 for grades K – 6. The hours for the part-time preschool program are 9:20-12:30 and 12:30-4:05.

If you need to be at work by 8:30 that could present some challenges for you, especially if you’re commuting to the District or the Pentagon.

Halley offers SACC which is a before and after-school program has with the Office for Children of Fairfax County. However, I have to warn you that SACC often times has a waiting list that’s months long. Check out the SACC website to see if there are spots currently available.

If you are unable to get your child signed up for SACC there are a number of private before and after care programs in the area that will drop off and pick up your child. Island also has a program called FLEX which focuses on Foreign Langauge Experience. [/su_icon_text]

Parent involvement has been linked to student achievement. When looking for a school for your kids you’re also looking for a school that’s a good fit for you as well.

The Halley Elementary PTO supports the school through various fundraisers and events throughout the school year. The Halley PTO offers a number of before and after school fee-based programs. Whether you are looking for technology, science, fitness, or hobbies, there’s something for everyone. Check out the Halley PTO website for a list of upcoming events and meetings.

There are lots of opportunities to support your child and the school by volunteering in the lunchroom, office, and classrooms. Your level of involvement can be as much or as little as you like.[/su_icon_text]

[su_homepage_testimonial author="A Happy Client"]I’ve only shopped for property three times, but Abraham provided a substantially better experience than my previous two agents (even though they all worked for the same brokerage). He knows what he is doing, he is service oriented, he is friendly, and he gets things done. I can tell you that you probably have no idea how awesome a real estate agent can be unless you’ve bought or sold through Abraham. As long as he is around and I’m buying or selling, Abraham will be my agent from here on out.[/su_homepage_testimonial]
