Students at Hayfield can take part in the school’s band or strings program. Hayfield Middle offers beginning band for wind and percussion instruments, as well as, a symphonic band. Most elementary schools in the area offer band in the 5th and 6th grade. If your child has experience playing they can try out for the intermediate class.

French and Spanish language classes are also taught at Hayfield. T

he school recommends that parents interested in having their children considered for the honors program review the requirements to determine if its the right fit.[/su_icon_text]

Student enrollment at Hayfield Middle is just under 900 students per school year with a student-teacher ratio of 15.40 to 1 which is equal to the Virginia state level. Total student enrollment is just under 3,000, however, that number is slightly skewed because Hayfield Secondary includes both Hayfield Middle and High.

You may be surprised to learn that both the middle and high school are in the same building. This is cause for concern for some parents before enrolling in the school but overall feedback is that there is little interaction between the two.[/su_icon_text]

Students living in Kingstowne, Hayfield Farms, Island Creek, Lake D’evereux, Newington Farms, Raceway Farms and a few other parts of Lorton can expect to attend Hayfield Secondary if they attend the following elementary schools, Hayfield, Island Creek, Lane, Gunston, and Lorton Station.

If you’re relocating from another part of the country you may be unfamiliar with the Fairfax County school calendar. School starts during the last week of August and ends in either the second or third week of June.

Hayfield Middle operates on a block schedule where students alternate classes depending on the day of the week.
